In addition, BBVA will use volunteer initiatives, which have been identified in the 2030 Agenda as a “vehicle for sustainable development”, and in accordance with BBVA’s raison d’être and values, to achieve the objectives set for each of these areas of work.

Inclusive growth

BBVA’s Community Engagement 2021-2025 focuses on communities or groups that are in situations of vulnerability or inequality or lack protection.

The ultimate goal of the plan is to allocate resources, efforts and tools to improve the lives of these people and thus foster inclusive growth, ensure that the benefits of economic growth spill over into all spheres of society, create opportunities for everyone and leave no one behind.

According to Agenda 2030, despite the progress made in recent years in the fight against poverty, inequalities remain one of the biggest challenges nowadays and represents an obstacle to development, peace and respect for human rights in the world.

BBVA develops its social programs as part of multi-year local plans in all countries where the Group is present. The latest plan, drawn up between 2016 and 2019, has benefited more than 35 million people. In 2020, in addition to undertaking its social programs, BBVA helped mitigate the impact of COVID-19 with its social response plan. A total of 12.2 million directly benefited from this program in the same year.

This new community engagement aligns with the bank’s goal: to bring the age of opportunity to everyone; and with BBVA’s current strategic priorities, namely with sustainability and financial health.
